Seamless waterproofing (coating) using bituminous-latex emulsion Flexigum, bituminous-polymer mastics Mastigum Speed, Flexigum Paste

Technology, the so-called seamless sprayed, coating, liquid waterproofing (liquid rubber) is an anti-corrosive coating, performing the function of waterproofing of building structures, foundations of buildings. Such coating allows you to safely insulate hard-to-reach areas of the foundation, with complex geometry, where the use of roll materials is ineffective.

Flexigum is a two-component waterproofing material consisting of a bitumen-latex emulsion with a high content of synthetic latex based on polychloroprene rubber and coagulant.

Mastigum Speed - a two-component mastic, consisting of bitumen-latex emulsion and cement-polymer powder.

Flexigum Paste is a one-component mastic consisting of polymer bitumen modified with latex

All of the above materials, regardless of how they are applied, create a seamless coating on the surface, the materials perfectly fill all cracks, seams and pores of the treated surface, thereby providing ideal protection from water, steam and any other corrosive liquid.



Flexigum bituminous latex emulsion can only be applied by airless spraying, while Mastigum Speed and Flexigum Paste can be applied by roller and brush. All materials are characterized by cold application and instant curing.

The quality of waterproofing coating obtained on the basis of Flexigum, Mastigum Speed, Flexigum Paste is superior to many known domestic and foreign analogues - water practically does not penetrate through the polymer to the foundation or basement walls. You can easily apply the material to any surface, and the plane of their location does not matter, whether they are vertical, horizontal or inclined.

It is not economical to buy or rent an expensive installation for a single use. Therefore, when carrying out independent waterproofing work on the foundation it is advisable to use two-component bituminous mastic Mastigum Speed or bituminous-polymer mastic Flexigum Paste, which can be applied by roller or brush. Any method of applying emulsion or mastic to the surface of the structure is intended to produce a seamless monolithic coating.

When waterproofing by hand, the thickness of the layer of coating and mastic consumption will be slightly higher than when spraying (about 5-10%). Therefore, when planning the processing of large areas of the surface, it is necessary to consider the economic benefits in choosing a particular method of application of the material. There is no doubt that the quality of waterproofing performed by a mechanized method will be higher. This is due to the fact that the emulsion fed under pressure from the installation on the surface of the foundation penetrates deeper into its pores than when applied by roller. This reduces the consumption of the material and ensures maximum adhesion. In addition, spraying the entire waterproofing procedure can be completed in one day.

Advantages of the technology of spraying (applying) seamless waterproofing.

Given the fact that the optimal thickness of the coating is 3-4 mm, its operating parameters are equivalent to similar indicators of roofing felt glued to the foundation in several layers. At the same time there is no need to seal the seams between the roll material, as the resulting membrane is fully monolithic.

In addition, there are such advantages of Flexigum, MastigumSpeed, FlexigumPaste, which in turn are the main advantages over other waterproofing materials:

Longevity up to 75 years - preservation of the original characteristics throughout the life of the product;
Over time, the coating becomes stronger and harder without losing its elasticity;
Characterized by ease of repair and restoration;
No peeling from the base under the influence of adverse natural phenomena;
Operating temperatures range from -50 to +100 degrees, when heated, bituminous-polymer insulation melts, but does not burn.
Due to the excellent adhesion of the coating to the concrete and other substrates, the rubber waterproofing of the foundation can be glued to any insulation or cladding.
The high degree of elasticity of the coating (Mastigum Speed-1000%, Flexigum-1900%) at different temperatures contributes to its safety even with a significant shrinkage of the foundation in the early years after construction of the house.
Complete absence of seams - the absolute monolithicity, which distinguishes it from roll materials used for similar purposes.
Water resistance and impermeability of the coating eliminates the penetration of even moisture in a vaporous state.

The disadvantages of using seamless waterproofing with Flexigum, Mastigum Speed, Flexigum Paste are the higher cost of the material compared to roofing felt and the high qualification of the performer when working with the emulsion spraying equipment. Despite these disadvantages, it is quite obvious that the old methods of foundation waterproofing are clearly inferior to this application technology in most basic indicators: elasticity of the coating, its reliability, solidity, tightness, etc.

Preparation for seamless waterproofing of the foundation.

Preparatory work is an indispensable step in the waterproofing of the foundation. If the building is already in use, its underground part will need to be freed from the ground before this procedure is carried out, and then carefully inspected.

Earthworks at this stage consist of digging a trench adjacent to the walls of the foundation along its entire perimeter. Its width should be such that it was convenient to work in it - about 0.7-1 m. Its depth should reach the bottom of the foundation.
If inspection after excavation reveals old, used or destroyed waterproofing on the walls of the underground structure, it should be removed along with the accumulated dirt. This can be done with scrapers, solvent and rags.
To gain access to the pores of the foundation material, its walls should preferably be blasted with a sandblaster, which allows for additional cleaning of structures by feeding a loose abrasive on their surfaces under air pressure up to 10 atmospheres. After that, the foundation should be washed with a weak aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid.
If fungus or mold is found on the surface of the foundation, they should be removed with an antibacterial composition. The entry points of underground utilities passing through the foundation should be sealed with installation foam.
After that, the cleaned foundation walls should be repaired by sealing cracks and potholes in their surface with cement mortar and then, if necessary, covered with an appropriate primer to increase the adhesion of the coating to the substrate. If there is a drainage system in the foundation, it should be inspected for integrity and repaired or replaced if necessary.
Preparing for the waterproofing of the old foundation requires a lot of effort, time and even money. Therefore, it is better to perform any protective coatings on the underground part of the building during its construction. This will allow you to avoid additional excavation work and listed problems associated with them.

Technology of applying seamless waterproofing on the foundation.

Regardless of the method of applying liquid waterproofing on the foundation, it is not recommended to work with it in the rain or snow.

The treatment of the foundation with emulsion by hand should be performed in several layers until the desired thickness of the waterproofing coating is obtained. The mechanized method involves the application of the material in a single layer. In any case the thickness of the protective coating should not be less than 2 mm. When placing the foundation at a depth of up to 10 m its waterproofing layer thickness should be 3-4 mm, over 10 m - respectively 5-6 mm. A 4 mm thick coating will require an average of 7 kg/m2 of Flexigum bituminous latex emulsion.

By the beginning of waterproofing work concrete compressive strength should be at least 80% of the specified strength.

To ensure drainage and rapid drying of moisture, which is released in the form of individual water droplets with a diameter of 1-5 mm from the waterproofing membrane Flexigum, application should begin with the lowest area, moving to the high.

The Flexigum spraying process is accomplished by delivering two components: a bituminous latex emulsion and a coagulant (aqueous CaCl solution) designed to increase the polymerization rate of the material. The liquids are supplied in two circuits that include a system of flexible hoses that are connected to a dual nozzle sprayer with cone-shaped nozzles in the nozzles.

At the outlet of the atomizer, two jets of material components mix in an air environment. During this process, the emulsifier shell is rapidly destroyed and the released bitumen and latex particles, hitting the surface of the substrate, form a membrane. After the separation of technological moisture the material acquires the properties and physical and mechanical characteristics of high-quality seamless waterproofing. A project layer of up to 4 mm is sprayed on the surface in one go.

When applying Mastigum Speed two components (A and B) are mixed with an electric drill for 2 minutes to form a homogeneous mass, after which the mixture should be used (applied to the surface) for 60 minutes from the time of mixing in at least 2 layers.

Flexigum Paste is a one-component waterproofing material, which is applied in 2-3 layers with a brush or roller, resulting in a membrane similar to the Flexigum membrane.

The quality of adhesion of the waterproofing membrane to the surface is checked after 24 hours by control cuts with a knife. The area of the membrane that comes off, at the standard adhesion to the concrete should not exceed 2 cm2.

In the end, we would like to say the following. In any case, the advantages of bituminous-polymer materials modified with latex, much more than the disadvantages. The membranes have a longer service life and more reliable protection against moisture, resulting from the use of two-component emulsions and mastics.
