    Cement-polymer waterproofing

    APPLICATION OF CEMENT-POLYMER COATING-TYPE WATERPROOFING

Quality cement itself has a certain degree of waterproofing properties. However, conventional cement-sand mortar is difficult to make so that it has no pores at all, through which moisture penetrates. Special cement-polymer waterproofing compositions do not have these disadvantages.

The composition of cement-polymer mixtures includes three components:

Binder (binder) - high quality cement, which provides the strength of the composition and largely repels water. Filler - fine quartz sand. Polymer additives. Increased adhesion of the composition to the base, penetrating deep into the surface of concrete and crystallizing in its structure, firmly bonding the base with the coating. Increase the hydrophobic properties of the cement composition.

Cement-polymer compositions in comparison with the bituminous-polymer insulation has several advantages:

They can (and even should) be applied to a wet surface. The composition holds well not only on dry but also on wet concrete. At the same time, bitumen insulation with backflow of water (from the inside of the concrete) will simply tear away from the surface. Adhesion (strength of adhesion to the surface) of cement (mineral) waterproofing is higher than that of the bituminous-polymer. Compounds perfectly holds on concrete, brick (including sand-lime brick), metal and wooden surfaces. Mineral insulation has high mechanical strength, resistant to abrasion. The surface, treated with cement waterproofing, can be finished in two weeks after the application of the composition without any additional preparation. Tile, plaster, putty, paint - finishing materials perfectly holds on mineral substrates. Bitumen insulation will have to cover with plaster on a grid or screed. This is a huge plus in the manufacture of pool bowls and not only. Cement-polymer waterproofing has a unique property: it is vapor permeable. That is, water will not penetrate into the structure, for example, the basement of the building, while the masonry, if it is moistened, will dry out. Avoid the emergence of delamination in the case where the moisture does not come from the outside, but from the inside of the concrete, it will be gradually removed. Bitumen waterproofing in such cases, the moisture will tear away. Due to the high vapor permeability, mineral insulation can be used specifically for interior waterproofing and is often the only possible solution in the reconstruction of buildings.

Compounds are chemically neutral, environmentally safe, approved for use in drinking water tanks.

Types of cement-polymer waterproofing. We would divide cement-polymer waterproofing into three groups according to their properties:

Standard mixes that create a very abrasion-resistant exterior coating. However, it is inelastic and in the case of a crack in the base (concrete) will be broken and waterproofing. And this, you will agree, is a significant disadvantage, since the possibility of cracks almost a hundred percent! Crystallizing mixtures (penetrating insulation) have in their composition salt additives, which, when penetrating into concrete form a waterproof structure. Moreover, over time and with moisture waterproofing waterproofing more and more "grows" into the base and becomes more reliable. Such compositions are able to bridge small cracks (about 0.5 mm) in the base, perfectly holds the negative water retention, do not let the water out of the wet concrete, which makes them indispensable for reconstruction (drainage) of underground structures, where the external waterproofing is absent or broken. Elastic cement-polymer coatings are designed for problematic bases, which may lead to cracks, and it is - the majority of concrete bases, performed today! Proven on the market brands are reliable, guaranteed to cover cracks up to 1 mm, can withstand a vertical head of water up to 50 m.

Bitumseal Flex polymer-cement composition manufactured by Bitum Petrochemical Industries Ltd. covers cracks more than 2 mm! Thanks to the added hydraulic latex additives, the finished Bitumseal Flex waterproofing coating has a unique elasticity.

    Technology of waterproofing works

The surfaces must be cleaned of dust, dirt and oil before work is started. In the case of weak loose substrate manufacturer Bitum Petrochemical Industries Ltd. recommends a pre-treatment of the surface with a two-component penetrating primer Aquapoxy. From the joints and cracks remove crumbling mortar and concrete, cleaned and densely grouted with any drying cement mortar Cracks, seams and large sinks are expanded and tightly filled with the same mortar or sealant. The surface immediately prior to the application of waterproofing requires moisture. In the corners and the floor-wall junction before making ribbing radius of 3-4 cm. To do this you can use cement plaster. Additionally strengthen the joints with waterproofing tape, sinking it into the material. Place an additional layer of Bitumseal Flex on top. The sealing compositions are applied only with a brush or trowel. When applying by hand, the cement mixture is thoroughly rubbed or smeared into the surface, leaving no gaps. Small cavities are filled with the mixture. two or three layers are applied to achieve the desired result. When applying the first layer, move the trowel in the same direction. Each subsequent layer is applied at intervals of 12-24 hours. The next layer is applied in a direction perpendicular to the previous one. Applied layers of the mixture should be protected against too rapid drying. To do this, the surface should be moistened every 2-3 hours for 1-2 days. Internal processing of precast concrete basement walls is complete. After two weeks, the surface can be protected with tile, plaster or screed.

When carrying out the internal waterproofing of basements and ground floors is generally the only option.
