About us
Bitum Petrochemical Industries Ltd. (Bitum) Bitum is Israel's leading manufacturer and exporter of waterproofing materials
For about 60 years Bitumen has been developing, producing and improving the most technologically advanced sealing and insulating materials
Bitumen leads the market with advanced waterproofing materials for every purpose: polymer-modified bitumen, bituminous mastics applied by cold spray or brush application, acrylic and polyurethane materials, cement-polymer waterproofing mixes and swellable waterproofing materials.
The first appeared bitumen-polymer emulsions and mastics, which are made from foreign bitumen of very high quality. The quality of bitumen received from oil refineries does not meet the acceptable requirements of the plant for the production of waterproofing materials. Due to the introduction of special polymers, bitumen-polymer composition is characterized by increased deformability at low temperatures, thermal stability and elasticity. In addition, the aging process inherent to conventional bitumen slows down significantly, which means that the durability of the finished bitumen-latex emulsion or bituminous-polymer mastic is increased many times over.
The final properties of modified bitumen depend largely on the technology of introducing the additive, and in this Bitumen is a leading world leader with many years of experience, which in recent times many domestic producers of similar materials are trying to apply.
Acrylic, polyurethane and cement-polymer materials that appeared in the range of the plant at the end of the 90s of the last century - the result of development of advanced technologies by specialists of the plant.
The main, perhaps, distinguishing feature of all the materials produced by Bitumen is the unique technology of modification with polychloroprene latex. It is due to latex that the moisture resistance and elasticity of the finished waterproofing membrane is increased hundreds of times.
When selecting materials for waterproofing, you should keep in mind that for each element of the structure, floor, walls, roof or foundation has its own materials, because the natural factors affecting them are different.
1948-1980
The chemical plant Bitum Ltd. was founded in Haifa in 1948. During its first years of operation, it mainly produced bituminous materials that were used in large construction projects in Israel, including the creation of the National Water Canal that carries water from the north to the southern part of the country...
In 1961 the refinery became part of the Delek Group, Israel's leading energy concern, which invested heavily in production development and advanced technological research. Thus, thanks to investments and successful management the refinery took a leading position in the oil refining industry in Israel.
1980-2000
In 1980 "Bitum Ltd." was one of the first in the world to put into operation a line for the production of cold applied bitumen-latex emulsions and became a leader in the use of these materials in the civil and road-bridge construction.
In the early 2000s, the plant expanded its product range and began producing acrylic and polyurethane materials.
2000-2010
The developed waterproofing materials are subject to high requirements for their physical and chemical properties, environmental friendliness and safety of application. Emulsion from each batch is sprayed on a sample to control the quality of the finished waterproofing membrane, and the emulsion equipment itself was completely renewed in 2013-2014 and still meets the latest standards.
In 2011 the plant was taken over by the Mashal family and changed its name to Bitum Petrochemical Industries Ltd. These changes took place with full preservation of the staff and the accumulated production and scientific experience.
